... Humans who get sick like that, they usually get a lot sicker and then... they kind of "fall down" like monsters do.

[Sorry Mettaton, it just hits a little too close to home. But with his reassurance, Asriel starts to calm down.]

[Mettaton has thus far been trying to avoid hugging Asriel, mostly because he doesn't want to gross the kid out, but...it wasn't as if his clothes were dirty, and it's impossible to avoid it in this situation anyway. So he gets himself up, brushes his pants off like nothing awful had just happened, then moves forward and pulls Asriel into a brief hug, ruffling his hair.]

I won't fall down, sweetheart. I wouldn't ever disappoint you like that if I could help it, alright? Besides, aren't humans much tougher than monsters? It's going to be much harder to hurt me now!

[He knows that's not entirely true, but...what's a little white lie when it comes to trying to comfort Asriel?]
