[Asriel doesn't respond right away. He's tempted to write back that he didn't either. The fact that he doesn't makes Asriel feel like maybe he isn't as good as this friendship thing as Mettaton seems to think he is.

Mettaton didn't know his history, after all. At least not the pieces of it that weren't written down as part of monster history. Everyone he's told so far, everyone that knows was willing to forgive him - or at the very least, gave him a chance to redeem himself. But the fear is still there, deep down. And he's not sure if he could actually handle losing Mettaton as a friend.
