[Mettaton isn't sure what he expected as they descended the spiraling steps down to the lower sections of this complex. He did at least aspire to find the Intermediaries, and even if he doesn't have "Mother's" blessing to protect him, hopefully he can still manage to rip their throats out.
His only goal besides that is to act as enforcer to Asriel. FIGHTing is what Mettaton's good at, and he will continue doing it until his heart hardens even to the young goat monster. Part of him hates the thought of such an occurrence...but it is inevitable.
Just as inevitable as reaching the end of this hall, and having the surroundings light up substantially. At last...he can see something to hurt.

Asriel remains nearby, of course, but it's Mettaton running point now, so he only glances back at the young boss monster to affirm that he should stay back--
--and then suddenly...his eye widens and his stance becomes so defensive, so infuriated, that should Asriel realize it, he'd do best to move out of the way...
